Before you start comparing yourself with a model., do notice from where you are starting.
Fitness isn’t really about weight gain or weight loss only..
Just looking slim and having a smaller waist size doesn’t mean you are fit. It’s not about how one looks, but about how one feels.
For many of us, being fit typically means maintaining a healthy weight with regular exercise and proper diet. If you are among them, you are thinking in the right direction.
Some interesting facts about fitness..
- People often choose to lose weight by any means, which in turn can lead to severe health risks.
- Insufficient sleep and overworking are harmful to both physical and mental fitness.
- Working out without a proper diet can be harmful instead of making you fit.
- Workout without taking care of your body norms can also lead to injuries.
So what is true fitness?
Real fitness is the body’s ability to function effectively in work and leisure activities, to be healthy from inside. It means to be able to resist diseases, to perform every routine physical activity without getting tired, to react in emergencies and to be able to handle stressful emergencies.
Now the question is, what are the components of physical fitness and how can you determine if you are fit.
That is, by evaluation of how you perform in each component of fitness, you can get an idea of how fit you are. So let’s start with the components.
- Cardiorespiratory fitness
Cardiorespiratory performance determines how well our body’s respiratory and circulatory systems can supply fuel during any physical activity. Various physical activities can help to improve cardiorespiratory endurance. Activities like swimming, walking, jogging, and bicycling lead to increased heart rate.
Result? This helps to strengthen the heart muscle, and our heart can pump more blood per heartbeat. Good news is you don’t have to exercise extensively initially, start with brisk walking, gradually increasing the time and then pace.
You will see the difference soon.
Research shows how Cardiorespiratory fitness reduces the risk of many diseases. People who exercise regularly often don’t suffer from heart disease, stroke, lung disease, and diabetes.
Flexibility is crucial when it comes to fitness. Flexibility helps to improve the movement of each joint in the body and reduce the risk of an injury. Maintaining flexibility helps to protect the muscles from injury too. With simple stretching exercises for the upper body, core, and the lower body, you can improve this vital fitness component. Besides basic stretching, Yoga and Pilates training is best for improving flexibility.
With a daily stretching regimen, you can get optimal results. Remember, if you want to be fit, improving your flexibility should be on the to-do list for sure.
· Muscular Endurance
Muscular endurance indicates the ability of the muscle to continue to perform without getting tired. It is also one of the essential factors that help in improving physical stamina and muscle strength. Having good muscular endurance means you can carry out any daily routine activity just like having peanuts.
Fortunately, if you don’t have to be an athlete or run a marathon to increase your muscular endurance. You can start with sustained activities such as walking, Pushups, Sit-ups, or bicycling, etc. With simple lifestyle changes, you can improve your muscular endurance quickly. Here are some tips that you can use.
I. Using the stairs instead of an elevator.
II. Investing in a standing desk while working.
III. Walking to the grocery store or even office if possible.
You can start with these small changes and increase your exercise regime from 20 to 60 minutes slowly. Keep an exercise-until-failure approach, and you will see the results.
· Body composition
Body composition helps to determine the weight of bone/muscle and body fat in the human body. People often believe that all kinds of fats are bad, but the truth is there is good fat, and then there is bad fat. With certain exercises and diet, one can burn the bad fat and improve their overall health undoubtedly. If you want to gain muscle and reduce fat, start with limiting sugar intake and eating lots of nutrient-dense for a good start.
- Healthy Mind
A healthy mind is very very essential part of being fit.
- Are you sleeping properly
- Are you facing any stress
- Are you free from any mental illness like Depression, Anxiety, etc?
For a mind to be on the right health meter, it’s important to give it proper rest, to rejuvenate regularly and to give it proper exercises as well.
Yoga, Breathing Exercises, Pranayama, etc are necessary as well.
The truth is when it comes to fitness all these above components are interlinked. The only way to boost your immunity, and becoming fit both physically and mentally is self-determination. There is no short-cut or easy way outs.
Moreover, Fitness is as individual as you are. Everybody has its own strengths and weaknesses. Everyone has their own physical and mental issues. Losing our mind over weight-loss only makes it tougher for body and mind to stay in sync.
